Sheikh Ali Salman: Stoking sectarian war is a crime

We don’t want Bahrain a homeland for Sunnis on the expense of Shiites, nor a homeland for Shiites on the expense of Sunnis. We want victory for all Bahrainis. Because victory for one tribe or one sect is loss.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Sheikh Ali Salman, the Secretary-General of Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society gave a speech to the Bahraini masses who gathered in Sar on Friday evening. The huge rally was titled “Homeland of All (3)”. The first rally carrying this title was held in 2011 in defiance to the state of emergency back then.Below is a summary of his speech:Sectarian conflict is loss for allBahrain is for all and the revolution is not desired to be in favor of one faction on the expense of another. We don’t want Bahrain a homeland for Sunnis on the expense of Shiites, nor a homeland for Shiites on the expense of Sunnis. We want victory for all Bahrainis. Because victory for one tribe or one sect is loss. We want victory for all in order to achieve stability. But those who do not belong to Islam and humanity and civilization, those who ware calling for sectarian war, we will leave behind. They are not welcomed.Stoking sectarian war in Bahrain or anywhere else is a crime, and we are calling for a homeland that embraces all. We will always be loyal to our Islamic and national brotherhood and we will never compromise on it.We have made a huge success by our firm stand in face of the authority’s attempts to push this people into a sectarian war.Bahraini opposition’s visit to South AfricaAl-Wefaq secretary-general talked about the opposition’s recent visit to the Republic of South Africa. He said all figures they met from different ethnics who spent most their lives struggling for freedom all emphasised that our situation in Bahrain is very similar to them during the apartheid era rule by the white minority. “They told us, in South Africa it’s about colour, whilst, in Bahrain it’s about the tribal racism”, he said.“All who we met with expressed their solidarity with our cause as having gone through similar agonies. They showed their support to an immediate transition from a racial system to real democracy. They called on the people in Bahrain to be patient and insistent and never back down until all just and legitimate demands are fulfilled. They said that the victory to the people of Bahrain is something inevitable”, he added.Shaikh Ali Salman, also, mentioned “some of them met with members from the Bahraini National Unity Gathering and they called all to be open to others without waiving the fundemental rights. The South Africans entered the dialogue while some of them were behind bars. They entered the dialogue without waiving the right of equality. In Bahrain, we are open to all, we talk and meet, but the freedom of our people is inalienable”.Speak up for your rightsSince 1992 and until today, people from different parties have told us that our demand for democracy is a just cause and that they can’t speak up like we do. I say, my dears, I understand what you are saying. But in South Africa, I found white people who had declared their refusal of discrimination and got bullets in reply. They were called traitors and today they are called the Committee of Justice and Freedom because they stood against discrimination and persecution. Political figures behind barsI call on the political and youth movements to gather and launch a campaign for our jailed political figures along with all political prisoners. This campaign must not stop until all political figures and human rights activists are free.Political solutionBahrain requires apolitical solution that stands on equality between all citizens in rights and duties. In 2013, no political system can stand on discrimination between citizens. We are calling for a political system that does not oppress the minority nor the majority. No more deception and circumventionIn 1971 and 2001 and after that, superficial projects were passed with a lot of deception and circumvention. But today, you won’t find anyone signing a charter or constitution that is against this people’s rights. The people and the political figures are much more aware than to be fooled. ProtestsWe reject violence in political action. Most of the violence is practiced by the regime, but even the little violence practiced by other sides is rejected. We are with all nonviolent demonstrations anywhere, and the best place for protest is the capital. /129
