Opposition Group Blasts Bahrain's Segregationist Ruling System

A senior member of Bahrain's al-Wefaq National Islamic Society lambasted the discriminatory policies of the al-Khalifa regime, and called for the freedom of all political prisoners.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - "The solution needed in Bahrain is a political solution based on the equality of citizens' rights and responsibilities, and no political system should rule the country in 2013 based on discrimination among people," Secretary-General of al-Wefaq Sheikh Ali Salman said in an interview with Bahrain's al-Wasat newspaper on Saturday.

He also called for a national campaign for the freedom of the political prisoners and human rights activists in Bahrain.

Anti-government protesters have been holding peaceful demonstrations across Bahrain since mid-February 2011, calling for an end to the al-Khalifa dynasty.

Violence against the defenseless people escalated after a Saudi-led conglomerate of police, security and military forces from the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) member states - Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Qatar - were dispatched to the tiny Persian Gulf kingdom on March 2011, to help Manama crack down on peaceful protestors.

So far, tens of protesters have been killed, hundreds have gone missing and thousands of others have been injured.
