(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The Liberties and Human Rights Department (LHRD) at Al-Wefaq has revealed the number of arrests and violations that took place in May 2013. The numbers, which were based on statistics prepared by the LHRD, included 240 arrests, 3 of whom were women and 19 were children.The regime forces have conducted more than 291 home raids and which took place mostly at late night or early morning hours to terrify inhabitants. The raids were coupled with verbal abuse and torture practiced against the households.The LHRD has documented 29 cases of vandalism of private property by the regime forces in May.Among the raided houses was the home of Bahiya Al-Aradi. Bahiya was killed by army live-ammunition during the state of emergency in early 2011. Last month, her family’s house was raided and searched and a number of her relatives were arrested on the same day.During the month, the regime forces practiced collective punishment on residential areas in 141 cases, whilst 200 protests took place in different areas around Bahrain.According to the LHRD also, 47 citizens were injured and 25 were subjected to torture.On May Day, many protests took to streets marking the international labour day. Huge numbers marched in the streets protesting the ongoing vindictive dismissals of workers as a punishment for their opinions and demands of transition to democracy.On 10th May, the regime forces clamped down on the village of Bani Jamra, west of the capital Manama. All entries were blocked with armored vehicles and police patrols, and residents were not allowed to enter or exit the area for long hours.On Friday 17th May, the Bahrainis were shocked and outraged by the regime forces attack on the home of the prominent national and religious figure Ayatollah Issa Qassim. The attack, which Al-Wefaq said was planned for, brought wide anger in Bahrain as well as the Arabic and Islamic world. The next Friday, Bahrain witnessed the largest sit-in throughout its history, protesting the attack.Most areas across Bahrain witnessed daily peaceful pro-democracy events such as sit-ins and demonstrations. The people of Bahrain continue to raise their demands for a democratic transition towards a state of equality and justice./129
