Al-Sebea: “Systematic torture is commanded by high ranking officials”

Abdul Majeed Al-Sebea, a former MP in Al-Wefaq bloc, stressed that torture in Bahrain is systematic and commanded by high ranking officials.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Abdul Majeed Al-Sebea, a former MP in Al-Wefaq bloc, stressed that torture in Bahrain is systematic and commanded by high ranking officials.Al-Sebea’ added that Bahrain deserves to be the capital of torture because the regime has spared nobody. Most of Bahraini families have a story of torture. He pointed out that the regime has been undertaking a well-planned strategy of torture since the emergency law was set in 2011. However, the number of torture’s victims is alarmingly increasing with a full impunity guaranteed to perpetrators. He stressed that the torture which is perpetrated by the regime in Bahrain cannot be compared with other violations in the world. The regime vindictively tortures its own people in order to punish them for their pro-democracy and political stances. People in Bahrain are being tortured by the regime forces themselves in daylight, with their official uniforms; however, we urge the international community and the UN to take serious stances to put an end to the torture in Bahrain. He, also, pointed out that decree 65 has guaranteed impunity for torturers, opening the doors for torturers to perpetrate more violations against human rights in Bahrain.Meanwhile, the opposition in Bahrain has launched a 10-day campaign titled “Bahrain, the Capital of Torture” and which has been scheduled during the cancelled visit of the UN’s Special Rapporteur on torture, Mr. Juan Mendez. This is not the first time the Bahraini regime prevents the Mr. Mendez’s visit to Bahrain.Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society announced the launching of the Capital of Torture campaign on Wednesday 8th  to 16th May,2013. The campaign is aimed to reveal torture practices perpetrated by the regime forces against dissidents and that led to the death of a number of citizens inside and outside detention centers./129
