Bahrain: measures taken against Milad target the dialogue

Majeed Milad is the National Democratic Opposition Parties team member to dialogue and Al-Wefaq's Secretariat member. Al-Wefaq said the minister's complaint against Milad is a governmental targeting against the dialogue.

The municipality bloc of Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society in Bahrain said that the Municipality Minister is attempting to undermine municipal action and the authorities of the municipal council members by filing a complaint against Milad. Majeed Milad is the National Democratic Opposition Parties team member to dialogue and Al-Wefaq's Secretariat member. Al-Wefaq said the minister's complaint against Milad is a governmental targeting against the dialogue.

Al-Wefaq's municipality bloc stressed that the measures taken against Milad are expected to be ordered by higher-ranking officials and not the Minister. The regime's officials have been targeting the dialogue table and undermining efforts to find political solutions for the crisis in Bahrain, and this measure comes within a series of measures to hinder the dialogue and leave no opportunity for the serious solutions the opposition is working on, the bloc said.

The Minister, who accuses Milad of engaging in political matters and over crossing specialties, has supervised the demolishing of mosques in Bahrain to retaliate from a wide faction in the community for their political opinions, it added, these mosques which mostly remain demolished prove that the Municipality Minister has indeed over-crossed and acted beyond his authority while he is supposed to serve the citizens and not fight their beliefs and holy places.

The country is not harmed by one's practice of freedom of expression and opinion or by efforts to achieve the rightful demands of the political majority in Bahrain, but it is rather harmed by a public official's misuse of his position against elected members of the municipality council, Al-Wefaq's minipilaty bloc stated adding, if the Minister was in an elected government he wouldn't have the courage to take such illegal measures.

It is embarrassing to find a public official position being used to retaliate and attack dissidents, it said.

Majeed Milad is a citizen and his municipal post does not expropriate his right as a citizen who has been active in political action before he became head of the Capital Governance Municipality in 2002 and he has not mixed between his political and municipal work since.

The municipality bloc of Al-Wefaq said the measure is illegal and taking the matter to the judiciary is an attempt to cover over the Minister's arbitrariness as he does not have the right to take measures against a municipal member. The opposition does not provoke persons in its statements but rather criticizes performance, it added.
