(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Sri Lanka Muslim traders and businesses will hold an island wide hartal today to protest the growing anti-Muslim campaigns in the country.
The peaceful protest organized by the Muslim Rights Organization (MRO) of Sri Lanka will urge the government to take immediate actions to stop anti-Muslim campaigns, maintain law and order and promote communal harmony, according to the organizers.
Muslims, a sizable community in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo are expected to keep the shops shut today and stay away from work.
MRO President and Western Provincial Councilor, Mujibar Rahuman said some extremist groups such as the Buddhist group Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) should be held responsible for the anti-Muslim campaigns.
He also demanded that legal action be taken against the people who are stoking a conflict between Sri Lanka's majority Sinhalese and minority Muslims.
Earlier this month, the Bodu Bala Sena successfully campaigned to get the Sri Lanka Muslim clerics' organization, All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU), which has been issuing the Halal certificates to businesses, to remove the Halal logo from all local products.
Meanwhile, BBC reported quoting Muslim activists that the police was threatening them to suspend the hartal. However the Police had denied the charge.
