15 years in jail for 17 Bahraini protestres

A Bahraini court has convicted seventeen people to 15 years of jail, accusing them of attempted killing of policemen in al-Aker village in April 2012.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - All seventeen were charged for a roadside bombing which injured four members of a passing patrol in al-Aker. The General attorney office said the evidences that proved the convicted people guilty, were lost amongst attempts for providing the injured people with emergency first aid.

The conviction comes as another court which was held on the same day, acquitted two police forces which were detained for killing civilians in the peaceful demonstrations held against Al Khalifa regime.

Anti-government protesters have been holding peaceful demonstrations across Bahrain since mid-February 2011, calling for an end to the Al Khalifa dynasty's over-40-year rule, end of discrimination, establishment of justice and a democratically-elected government as well as freedom of detained protesters.

Bahraini opposition has long protested the widespread arrest of political activists and long term jail times issued by Al Khalifa regime since forceful crackdown of demonstrators started in February 2011.
