Bahrain: The Public Prosecution targets Al-Wefaq's Deputy Secretary General

The Public Prosecution has summoned the Deputy Secretary General of Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society to appear before the Public Prosecution on Monday 11th March 2013 for claims of defamation against the Bahraini government's spokeswoman.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The Public Prosecution has summoned the Deputy Secretary General of Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, Sheikh Hussain al-Deihi, to appear before the Public Prosecution on Monday 11th March 2013 for claims of defamation against the Bahraini government's spokeswoman. In the meanwhile, the Public Prosecution continues to ignore complaints made months ago against government officials, including the Information Minister, Justice Minister and Municipality Minister in very clear cases which have been confirmed by the Bahrain independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) report, known as the 'Bassiouni report'.

Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society has announced that the Deputy Secretary General will appear before the Public Prosecution tomorrow either personally or by the attendance of his lawyer despite al-Wefaq's reservation on the Public Prosecution and all the judiciary's establishments. Al-Wefaq is totally assured of its legal position and that any fair and impartial interrogation is more likely to decide to close the case. At the same time, Al-Wefaq renews its calls on the judiciary to rule in the legitimate complaints it had made in real cases which stand on all necessary bases against a number of ministers in the cabinet.

Al-Wefaq here, reminds the Public Prosecution of the tens of martyrs, the hundreds of torturers and the huge amount of state assets that have been looted from the people and have yet undergone without accountability or pursuit of criminals, torturers and killers.

Al-Wefaq expresses its solidarity with its Deputy Secretary General, Sheikh Hussain al-Deihi, and considered the complaint malicious and targets dissent opinions and the political action in Bahrain, it also questions the neutrality of the judiciary and its institutions. Al-Wefaq reminds here that one of the main demands of the Bahraini people is a fair and impartial judiciary.
