(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The head of Liberties and Human Rights Department (LHRD) in Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, Hadi al-Musawi, accused the Bahraini regime of adopting double-standards and impunity as a policy. Al-Musawi mentioned that the regime is deliberately ignoring more than 110 cases of killings against citizens.
Al-Musawi spoke at a press conference in Al-Wefaq on Wednesday 27th, highlighting the Bahraini authority's impunity and protection for criminals. He pointed out that the authority is attempting to hide cases of murder including two persons, (Ahmed Farhan-Bahraini and Mohammed Ikhlas-non-Bahraini), both killed with live ammunition on 15thMarch 2011. "The army is accused in the cases of killings with live ammunition, but the cases have not been looked into", he added, "while it convicts citizens in fast rap ups of false accusations and claims of killing policemen, some defendants in these cases were arrested within 24 hours or less and handed heavy sentences and subjected to torture and mistreatment in detention".
"The Bahraini courts have ended five cases of murder with acquittals of the killers, before looking into relative evidence, Al-Musawi added, this strongly proves the implementation of impunity and absence of justice".
The acquittals of the killers who work for the security forces are aimed to prevent any consequences of accountability of the senior officials who passed down the orders and every official involved, al-Musawi stated.
"Today we witness a problem after six days on the killing of the martyr Mahmood al-Jazeeri by the security forces, instead of investigating the crime, the security services have totally ignored the murder and made a controversy of funeral and burial details with the victim's family", al-Musawi said. He said the citizens no longer trust the security forces or any governmental departments, mentioning the case of the martyr Karim Fakhrawi who governmental departments alongside the Public Prosecution claimed to have died of renal failure, only to go back on this and hand his killers a seven year sentence.
Regarding the establishment of an Arabic human rights court in Bahrain, Al-Musawi said, "If you want to establish a credible and professional human rights establishment you need to do that in the most democratic and free countries. Today, journalists are not able to enter Bahrain if the authority doesn't want them to, because it fears the truth will be revealed," he went on, "if an Arabic human rights court is founded in Bahrain, it will rule against human rights because the environment in Bahrain is inappropriate, it needs to look for a more appropriate environment".
