(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The World Federation sponsored tableegh efforts this past Muharram in Myanmar, through Shaykh Jamal Husain, a young student from Myanmar, currently studying in Hawza Ilmiyya Qum. Through the sponsorship of The World Federation, Shaykh Jamal Husain was able to travel to Myanmar, and to recite Majalis e Aza during the first ten days of Muharram.

Myanmar has a population of 57 million people and is gifted with a diversity in culture, religion, and geography. The dominant influence in the country is that of Buddhism. The Shia population of Myanmar is estimated to be eight to nine thousand people, amongst a total Muslim population of ten million.

Population of Muslims and Shias in Myanmar:

Shaykh Husain states: “Shias require the special attention of the wider Shia communities in the world for their economic, religious, cultural and social upliftment. If this does not happen then there will not remain much hope for the progress of Shias in Myanmar. Other Muslim groups have worked well in the region, and we have seen the benefits of their good organisation and their strategic planning, along with financial support. We need to increase our Tableegh, social, and cultural projects.”

The World Federation has also sponsored the publication of a book in the Myanmar language on Imam Husayn (as).

Shaykh Jamal expressed his thankfulness for the kind assistance by The World Federation to promote Islamic work in Myanmar.
