Photos - Bahrain International Solidarity Day marked in Copenhagen, Denmark

In solidarity with the people of Bahrain, tens of people gathered in Copenhagen, Denmark to commemorate 14 February an international day to support democracy in Bahrain on the second anniversary of the Bahraini pro-democracy revolution.

In solidarity with the people of Bahrain who revolted on 14th February two years ago, demanding their legitimate right to a decent life, justice, freedom and democracy, the organization of defenders of human right in Bahrain held an event on this occasion in the center of the capital Copenhagen, which is one of the most crowded places in Denmark.

The organisation set a large tent with a photo gallery that showed the story of the Bahraini revolution since 14thFebruary 2011 until this day. Nearly 300 photos showing the regime's brutal violations were exhibited.

A large number of the Danish and Swedish people participated in the event including European tourists, Arab residents and the Bahraini opposition in Scandinavia who were keen on accepting the invitation and attending the event. They expressed their solidarity and regret on what is happening in Bahrain. Many of them were surprised by the world's media silence towards this oppressed revolution. They had also set a symbolic 3 meters high monument of the Pearl roundabout, also known as "The Martyrs Roundabout" in Bahrain.

Tea and cake offered to the participants and visitors in this event in the same hospitality that was once known by the people of the Pearl Roundabout. This gave the event an atmosphere similar to that of the Pearl roundabout's at the protests back in 2011. Red and white roses with brochures were distributed representing the flag of Bahrain and the peaceful revolution.

There was a table set for people to sign a petition that would be sent later on to the headquarters of the United Nations. A number of participants spoke at the event including journalists and members of Amnesty International.

A ten year old Bahraini Danish girl delivered a speech in Danish, expressing her feelings and solidarity with the children of her home land Bahrain and read out the petition that was signed by participants.

Ahmed Al-Haddad a member of Bahrain Center of Human rights also participated with a Arabic speech in Solidarity with the cause.

Despite the cold weather, large crowds of the Bahraini community in Scandinavia and Arab and Danish friends responded to the invitation and participated in the event. A number of media outlets covered the event, including the Pearl TV channel.

In conclusion the organization called for the importance of a UN intervention to put an end to the ongoing violations in Bahrain and to help the Bahraini people in their path of self-determination. This is the second year the organization holds an event in coincide with the anniversary of the revolution on the 14th February.
