Bahrainis rally to mark revolution anniversary

Bahraini protesters have held fresh protest rallies as the nation marks the second anniversary of its uprising that began in mid-February 2011 against the Al Khalifa regime.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Anti-regime demonstrators on Thursday held a massive march in in the capital, Manama, while similar rallies were held in several other parts of the country, including the village of Karrana in the Northern Governorate.

Bahraini activists have been staging protests across the country over the past few days and plan to go on a general strike on February 14 to commemorate the revolution in the Persian Gulf nation.

The Bahraini public embarked on a revolt in a quest for political reforms and a constitutional monarchy. But the demands soon changed into a call for an end to the rule of the Al Khalifa family following the regime’s brutal crackdown on popular protests.

On March 14, 2011, troops from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates invaded the country upon Manama's request to help the Bahraini regime quell the peaceful protests.

Scores of people have been killed and hundreds of others arrested in the brutal crackdown.
