(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The Women Affairs Department in al-Wefaq National Islamic Society revealed that the number of violations perpetrated against women in Bahrain during the last two years since the eruption of the revolution on 14 February 2011 is shocking, as the number of females arrested during the past two years has reached 231, meaning an average of 10 females arrested a month, and this is a very large number in a country claimed by the regime to be of Islamic and Arabic customs.
The head of al-Wefaq's Women Affairs, Mrs. Ahlam al-Khuza'i held a press conference on Monday, in which she announced 17th March a day for the struggling Bahraini women. This is the day the first female was martyred in the Bahraini 'pearl revolution', she said.
Al-Khuza'i also announced that a large women protest is scheduled for next Thursday on 7th February within the popular protest escalation ahead of the 2nd anniversary of the 14 February revolution.
"The Bahraini women will prove, once again, that they are a hard number that will contribute to victory".
Al-Khuza'i said the pearl revolution has added so much to the Bahraini people, and especially the Bahraini women. "the Bahraini women have suffered from the various types of violations that have been documented against the regime. Despite the outrageous violations, Bahraini women have taken lead in political and human rights activism inside and outside Bahrain", she added.
Al-Khuza'i pointed out that when al-Wefaq SG declared that women will be in any coming political projects, this means that the role women play will not be limited to protests but rather participants in political projects.
The constant presence of women in street protests and different activities indicates and proves that the Bahraini women are very concerned for this country's problems and want to push for democracy and a better Bahrain for their children, she said.
