Bahrain regime must listen to protesters’ demands

The Bahraini monarchy must meet the demands of ant-regime protesters in order to solve the ongoing crisis in the Persian Gulf country, an analyst tells.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - “No solving of the problem will come unless the [Bahraini] government obeys the demands of the Bahraini people,” Redwan Rizk, a political analyst from Lebanon said in an interview with Press TV on Wednesday. The analyst said protesters in the Persian Gulf kingdom are only looking for minimum civil rights after “suffering from a very severe discrimination for many, many decades in Bahrain.”Despite the brutal crackdown on protests by Saudi-backed Bahraini forces, the Manama regime has been under tremendous pressure, Rizk added."At the end, I believe that they will obey the demands of the Bahraini people," he continued. On Tuesday, hundreds of Bahrainis took to the streets across the capital overnight to protest against the ruling Al Khalifa family. Activists say the military has set up checkpoints in and around Manama to prevent further demonstrations.Opposition rallies have continued in Bahrain in defiance of a government ban on public gatherings. The government’s harsh crackdown on demonstrations has also failed to keep protesters off the streets.Scores have been killed, many of them under torture while in custody, and thousands more have been detained since the popular uprising in Bahrain began in mid-February 2011.Protesters say they will continue holding anti-regime demonstrations until their demand for the establishment of a democratically-elected government is met. /129
