(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - AlWefaq stated that the continuation of such sham trials- as described by international organizations and parties- undoubtedly indicates that the regime's commitments to any recommendations made by the international community or any commission it finds itself, is no more than a media show.
AlWefaq strongly denounced the continuation of trials against figures of the Islamic Action Society 'Amal' along with other activists and prisoners of conscience. "They deserve freedom, and their torturers are the ones who deserve to be tried for all the killings and abuses perpetrated against political detainees as documented by the BICI report", AlWefaq said.
AlWefaq stressed that it is necessary to release all prisoners of conscience and activists according to both recommendations of the BICI report and the Universal Periodic Review of the U's Human Rights Council. However, the regime in Bahrain is turning its back on all international calls and continues to perpetrate more abuses through use of power and force to punish dissidents.
AlWefaq also pointed out that the judiciary in Bahrain is in the government's hands and lacks justice requirements as the BICI report confirmed. AlWefaq also mentioned that what the opposition had criticized of official's interference in the judiciary authority, made these trials a "Travesty of justice" as stated by Amnesty International and a "political persecution" as stated by the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
