(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Millions of Shiites worldwide commemorate this day in condolence to the leader of martyrs Imam Hussein (AS). In the battle of Karbala, Imam Hussein and his companions were encircled by an army of 30,000 which decapitated martyrs and ran over bodies with horses.
Yazid's army then plundered tents of Imam Hussein's family and burned them. Then, they moved girls and women along heads of the martyrs to Yazid's court.
Anger at Imam's martyrdom became a rallying cry that helped oust Umayyads.
Millions gather on this holy day with one motto in their hearts and cheers; a unified chant that penetrates all barriers of space and time to reach Imam Hussein on that dreadful day; Woe unto the Wretched...Disgrace, Never Ever!
The Dahyeh, Beirut's Southern Suburb witnessed on this day Imam al-Hussein followers and lovers, who wore their black mourning attires, tinted with red bandanas of "Woe unto the Wretched", and waved the great yellow flags of Hizbullah and banners of "O Hussein", and "O Messenger of Allah, We Are at Your Service".
Men, women, children, elderly all marched in the procession in condolence to Imam al-Hussein (AS). The message they conveyed to the world, to all oppressors, to all those who dare doubt divine power, is "we shall not kneel, we shall not yield, and we shall not despair."
The procession was preceded by a recollection of the Karbala battle told by Sheikh Ali Slim, which devastates Imam al-Hussein lovers year after year as if it just happened. The recollection brought them tears of fury on those who dare defame their dear religion.
Nothing, no rain, no snow, no thunder, no storm would keep these faithful people from condoling their ever-lasting love and loyalty to Imam Hussein.
Women marched with their children and infants, condoling Sayyeda Rabab (Imam Hussein's wife), whose infant was killed with an arrow to the throat when Imam al-Hussein asked the opposing army for a pint of water to quench his son's unbearable thirst.
"I wish for all my children to learn the principles of Imam al-Hussein (AS), and I march today with my infant in my arms and my children beside me to empathize with and condole Imam al-Hussein's infant Abdallah," a mother of three said during the procession.
It is the overwhelming sorrow of Imam Hussein's martyrdom, injected into our veins like vaccine that gives us the empowering strength and pride to stand up and move forth. The cry of "O Hussein, we are at your service" with bleeding tears molds fearlessness, triumph, and invincibility into the core of these people.
"As long as Imam Hussein, who sacrificed his whole family and friends let alone his own self so that the religion of his grandfather the Holy Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) would resurrect from the ashes of those who defamed it, survives in the minds of his followers, rather his lovers, no power in the world could deprive us of our dignity and pride," she added.
Imam al-Mahdi Scouts led the procession, in a whole-hearted message of loyalty even among the youth. They stood perfectly in line as a devoted army to proudly lead the procession of their leader and love Imam Hussein.
"Sayyeda Zeinab surely watches over us today with tears in her eyes in reminiscence of her brother Imam Hussein who was martyred while thirsty," a young Imam al-Mahdi Scout declared proudly.
"I learnt from Imam Hussein and Sayyeda Zeinab how to be patient even if I was thirsty; I must bear thirst with patience to condole Imam Hussein (AS)," the scout further said.
Not only did these noble people march in condolence with Imam Hussein, but some even walked barefoot to empathize with Imam Hussein's tragedy by enduring pain and fatigue. An organized group of mourners were distinguished by their barefoot walk in the procession.
"We walk barefoot as a symbol of marching on the path of Imam Hussein and Sayyeda Zeinab," a woman told.
However, most marchers fasted till noon, tolerating thirst to condole the martyr Imam Hussein.
The resistance in Lebanon arms itself with the same honorable belief of Imam Hussein (AS) to not yield and comply with oppressors and arrogant corrupt regimes that seek worldly dominance, and to resist and sacrifice for this noble path.
The procession included slogans related to the annihilation of "Israel" and the US administration, such as "Death to "Israel"" and "America O Greatest Satan", since this Zionist regime coldly and guiltlessly slaughters children, women, and righteous fighters merely for dominance and power, which was the exact cause at Imam Hussein's time.
The procession ended when the marchers gathered at al-Raya stadium to listen to His Emninence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah's speech that ended at noon, around the time Imam Hussein was martyred.
Every day is Ashoura, every day is Karbala. Never will we yield, Woe unto the Wretched.
