Secretary of Ahlul Bayt World Assembly Letter to UN High Commissioner for Human Right

Secretary General of Ahlul Bayt (AS) World Assembly Ayatollah Mohammad Hassan Akhtari called here Wednesday for an immediate halt to violence and genocide of Muslims in Myanmar.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - In a letter to High Commissioner for Human Rights Navanethem Pillay, the cleric called on the UN Human Rights Council to take necessary measures to end killing of Muslims in Myanmar.

Referring to Myanmar as a member of the UN, Ayatollah Akhtari urged the country to respect the international conventions on human rights.

Surprisingly, he said, certain so-called advocates of human rights have kept mum on the massacre of Muslims in Myanmar.

Ahlul Bayt World Assembly as the biggest Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), that tries to protect the rights of Muslims all over the world, strongly condemns the inhuman actions in Myanmar, he said.

The Following is the full text of the letter of Secretary of Ahlul Bayt World Assembly to UN High Commissioner for Human Right Navanethem Pillay:

In the Name of AllahThe Compassionate, the MercifulHer Excellency Ms. Navanethem Pillay,Distinguished United Nations High Commissioner for Human RightsI avail myself of this opportunity to extend my best compliments and sincere greetings to Your Excellency at the beginning of my letter. As you are aware, in recent months, the world community has witnessed, to its deep regret and surprise, a clear violation of human rights and brutal massacre of Muslims in Rohingya, Myanmar. Unfortunately, over the past three decades, Muslims in Rohingya have undergone major cases of human rights violations including ethnic cleansing, murder, rape and forced displacement by the Myanmar security forces despite the fact that the Myanmar state, as a U.N. member, is committed to respect international covenants on Human Rights. The Myanmar State is also responsible for securing public safety for all its citizens; and should therefore stop the massacre of Muslim people, which is repeated during recent days. Resorting to Citizenship Act (1982), the Myanmar State continues its oppressions and discriminations against the Muslim minority in Rohingya while the said Act violates international principles as it unjustly deprives Muslims in Rohingya from their basic civil rights. It is much shocking to see that a number of so-called supporters of Human Rights have put the stamp of silence on their lips while watching the medieval crimes of the dictator regime of Myanmar. The United Nations, Security Council, and other Human Rights organizations, too, are just witnessing anti-human and oppressive aggressions in Myanmar without any positive reaction.    The Ahlulbayt World Assembly, as the largest international popular NGO, which has always acted as a supporter of Muslims’ and Human Rights all over the world, while condemning the restart of atrocities against the Muslim minority as a plain example of genocide and ethnic cleansing, appeals to Your Excellency to take advantage of your position and the power of UNHCHR and put an end to the violence and genocide against Muslims in Myanmar in the present sensitive situation. We hope that Your Excellency will fulfill your obligations in providing support for defenseless people of Myanmar by taking immediate measures to safeguard Muslim refugees and innocent women and children in the crisis-stricken country of Myanmar. We further emphasize on the trial of leading culprits of Myanmar crisis in an international court to be punished for their inhumane and cruel behaviors. Wishing for the promotion of humanity and justice throughout the globe;Mohammad Hasan AkhtariSecretary General
