Bahrain: Final communiqué calls on youth to continue the popular pro-democracy movement

A youth conference titled "Bahrain Youth in the Arab Spring" was held on Saturday by al-Wefaq's 'Bahrain Youth Centre'.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - A youth conference titled "Bahrain Youth in the Arab Spring" was held on Saturday by al-Wefaq's 'Bahrain Youth Centre'.

The final communiqué of the conference praises Bahrain youth and all the youth of the Arab Spring who played an active role in the awakening of the disenfranchised Arab nations.

Greetings of pride to all freedom fighters, martyrs, detainees, wounded victims and each and every Bahraini who made effort in the Bahrain Spring since the uprising of the divers and till this day.

The conferenced was aimed to bring more awareness and active participation amongst youth to help build their countries.

"We were looking forward to hearing from active youth delegates of the Arab Spring nations in order to exchange experience, but the authorities have prevented their attendance.", the statement said.

"We call and stress on the well aware youth of the Arab Spring to continue their peaceful movements, and we affirm that violence was firstly applied by the authorities that have adopted it as a policy to deal with popular demands."

The youth must play a clear and practical role in future decision making in the state and its political parties. The youth are the base of the popular pro-democracy movement, and they have proved that they are eligible to participate in political decision-making.

The conference denounced the unjust sentences passed down to the detained students and demand they be released and guaranteed their study rights. The conference also demanded the immediate release of all children and youth detained for political reasons, and reinstatement to schools and universities.

The conference concluded that the regime has made a big failure in implementing the so called 'National Youth Strategy', but has made outstanding achievements in its suppressive strategy. This strategy is widely used to oppress, kill, arrest and silence the people.

The statement also mentioned that Bahrain has always been known for its patriotic unity amongst all sects and religions.

The conference demanded a civil democratic state in which justice, equality and freedom is to all. Bahrain needs fair distribution of wealth, independent judiciary and an end to corruption. The people must be the source of all powers.

The final communiqué of the conference also condemned the improper use of freedom of expression to insult the prophet Mohammed (pbuh). It also stated that the Palestinian issue will always be the central concern and of the Arab youth despite what the difficulties of the revolutions they are going through.
