(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Lawyers reported that Bahrain's Court of Appeal on Sunday decided to reduce the prison sentences of 3 Bahraini handball players commuted their 15-year sentence to a year instead.
The three athletes were among a group of 32 people accused by the Bahraini authorities of burning a private farm located in the Shiite village of Karzakan which belonged to one member of al-Khalifa family.
The lawyers noted the three players are brothers – Mohammed, Ali Mirza and Mohammad Ali Jawad – The lawyer explained that their release was now pending since they had already completed their one year imprisonment.
Moreover, the players’ lawyers explained that "none of the court record ever included any admission of guild on the part of the players. All none the prosecution witnesses positively identified the defendants."
All brothers are world class athletes having participated in the last World Cup –held in Sweden.
Mohammed Ali Jawad is considered to be the most prominent Bahraini handball beach players of his generation. He won his team a gold medal at the first GCC Beach Games.
