Egyptian decision to open Rafah crossing welcomed

Spokesman for the Resistance Committees, Mohammed al-Brim, hailed the Egyptian leadership for its decision to open Rafah crossing all weekdays, including Fridays.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Spokesman for the Resistance Committees, Mohammed al-Brim, hailed the Egyptian leadership for its decision to open Rafah crossing all weekdays, including Fridays.

Al-Brim considered that opening Rafah crossing on Fridays to operate in both directions is an important step towards "lifting the unjust and oppressive siege imposed on our Palestinian people who have been suffering for more than six years", and thanked the Egyptian leadership for this procedure, which will contribute to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian people.

He said in a statement on Friday that fully and completely opening the crossing reflects the real desire of the Egyptian leadership to mitigate the suffering of Palestinians and to contribute in and take practical steps to lift the siege on the Gaza Strip, noting that Rafah Crossing is considered Gaza's sole gateway to the outside world.

For his part, MP Jamal Khudari, head of the Popular Committee against the Siege, hailed the Egyptian authorities for the decision to open the crossing.

Khudari said, in a statement on Friday, that opening the crossing for all the weekdays enabled thousands of citizens including patients and students to travel, which eased the current crisis.

He stressed on the need to keep the Rafah crossing open in both directions as this is the sole outlet for Gaza's residents who have been suffering since six years due to the Israeli siege.

The Egyptian authorities had told the Interior Ministry and the Department of Rafah crossing about its decision to open the crossing seven days a week, including Fridays starting from yesterday.
