The Bahraini regime has threatened to take legal action against the main opposition group, al-Wefaq, following a recent anti-government demonstration organized by the group near Manama.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The Bahraini regime has threatened to take legal action against the main opposition group, al-Wefaq, following a recent anti-government demonstration organized by the group near Manama.The Bahraini Interior Ministry said in a statement issued on Saturday that it “holds al-Wefaq responsible for violating the law and encouraging their supporters to participate in a non-sanctioned event.”On Friday, Saudi-backed regime forces used tear gas and stun grenades to disperse the demonstrators near the capital.Police also arrested six protesters during the protest, which al-Wefaq had organized despite prohibition by authorities.The interior ministry filed cases with the public prosecutor against the detainees.Over the past few months, the Al Khalifa regime has threatened to ban the opposition group, which demands the release of political prisoners and full powers in the Council of Representatives.The council, also known as Chamber of Deputies, has 40 seats and its members are elected by universal suffrage to serve four-year terms.Bahraini protesters have been holding demonstrations against the ruling Al Khalifa family since February 2011 and they hold King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa responsible for the death of the demonstrators during the uprising. /129
