President of Libya's National Assembly Mohammed Magarief says seven members of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) who were recently abducted in Libya are in good health and will be released soon.
“The Libyan government has made all necessary arrangements for the immediate release of the Iranian nationals and is pursuing the issue with sensitivity,” Magarief said in a Monday telephone conversation with Iran's Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani.
The Libyan official expressed deep regret over the abduction of the IRCS members in Libya and said he is personally following up on the issue.
The top Libyan parliamentarian added that promising news would be announced about the abducted Iranians in the near future.
On July 31, The Libyan Red Crescent (LRC) said in a statement that unidentified gunmen had kidnapped a seven-member IRCS delegation after they left the headquarters of the LRC in Benghazi.
The Iranian delegation went to Libya at the invitation of the Libyan Red Crescent to discuss various prospects for cooperation in the field of humanitarian assistance.
Larijani, for his part, called on Libyan officials to help to secure immediate release of the Iranian abductees.
He said the Iranian government and nation are following up on the issue with great concern and hope that the seven-member delegation would be freed through the contribution of the Libyan government.
