(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Bahraini regime forces have attacked anti-government demonstrators in the northeastern island of Sitra.
The demonstration was organized by the Amal Islamic Action Society on Tuesday.
Police used tear gas to disperse the protesters.
A similar demonstration was also held in Sitra on Sunday.
Anti-regime demonstrations in Bahrain continue despite the heavy-handed crackdown by the security forces.
Meanwhile, Bahrain’s criminal court extended the detention period of human rights activist Zainab al-Khawaja until the next hearing in her case on August 28.
Khawaja was among about 40 protesters arrested on August 3 during a peaceful demonstration near the capital, Manama, and lawyers say she faces 13 charges.
Zainab is the daughter of prominent detained activist Abdulhadi al-Khawaja, who is in prison over charges of ‘plotting to overthrow the monarchy.’
On Tuesday, Bahraini lawyers said the appeals court postponed its verdict in the case of 13 opposition figures, including Abdulhadi, until September 4.
