(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - A brutal crackdown was launched on Sunday 22nd July that subjected more than 22 areas to collective punishment and excessive force, in an attempt to prevent people from expressing their right to express their opinion.
There were many serious injuries due to the excessive use of the internationally prohibited bird shot gun bullets as well as lethal tear gas being inhaled by pro-democracy protesters.
As is always the case, those injured feared going to hospital to seek treatment as they may be targeted for arrest by regime forces that have taken over the hospital since the declaration of martial law more than a year ago.
Many areas witnessed a number of protests demanding the transition to democracy and insisting on the release of women who are still behind bars.
Regime forces brutally raided homes in areas that had protests taking place but also some areas without any protests. Such collective punishment has been a consistent theme of the regime forces, revealing their mentality of following the instructions of their commanders to revengefully attack and assault citizens.
There were protests in the following areas: Al-Daih, Al-Nuwaidrat, Al-Hamala, Samaheej, Sitra, Mahazza, Esfalah, Al-Kharjia, Wadyan, Al-Ma'ameer, Al-Ekr, Dar Kulaib, Al-Malkya, Karranah, A'ali, Al-Nabih Salih, Sadad, Bani Jamrah, Al-Sanbis, Al-Zinj, Bilad Al-Qadeem and Sar.
In Sitra many citizens were injured by bird shot gun bullets after it had been flooded with lethal tear gas.
Karanah Village was subjected to major suppression with police chasing citizens and many injuries being reported.
In Nuwaidrat police also chased citizens, including children, and indiscriminately fired tear gas at houses and the centre of the village.
