Pope John Paul II published poems after Imam Khomeini

Kamran Sharafshahi believes that after the publication of Imam Khomeini’s divan, many religious figures inside and outside Iran were fascinated by these poems and some even decided to publish their literary works – Pope John Paul II was one of these figures.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Sharafshahi said: “One aspect of Imam Khomeini’s character was his literary talent that manifested itself in his divan of poems. These works represent Imam Khomeini’s attitudes and moments of epiphany in life and make a visual portrait of his ideas in poetic form.” He regarded the divan of Imam’s poems as true reflection of the character of the founder of Islamic Revolution and said: “Unfortunately these poems were not available to the public during his lifetime. And we should pay more attention to these lasting and effective works.” Sharafshahi went on to state that after the publication of Imam’s divan of poems many religious figures inside and outside Iran were fascinated by these poems and some even decided to publish their literary works – Pope John Paul II was one of these figures. Even many religious figures within Iran changed they attitude towards poetry.

Highlighting the impact of the publication of Imam Khomeini’s poems on the literary atmosphere of the country, he asserted: “There were unreasonable pressure on mystic poetry in that time but after the publication of Imam’s divan more room was given to poets.”
