Egypt court to deliver Mubarak trial verdict on Saturday

The verdict in the trial of ousted Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak will be delivered on Saturday as the country is choosing its next leader in this month’s presidential vote.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - He faces charges of complicity in the killing of hundreds of protesters during the country’s revolution last year.

If convicted, the 84-year-old former ruler could face the death penalty.

The toppled leader also faced separate corruption charges along with his two sons and a family friend, who is on the run.

The verdict comes as Egyptians are set to elect between Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi and former Prime Minister of Mubarak’s regime Ahmed Shafiq on June 16 and 17.

Morsi won more than 24 percent of the ballots in the first round last week and Shafiq came second with more than 23 percent.

The Muslim Brotherhood urged Egyptians to rally behind their presidential candidate in the run-off, warning the country would be in danger if Shafiq won.
