(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Gunmen yesterday night attacked worshipers in Potiskum during the dusk prayer (Maghrib), killing three. Those martyred were said to be the brother and the driver of the Shiite leader, Malam Mustapha Lawan Nasidi. The martyrs are  Malam Mukhtar Lawan Nasidi and Malam Audu, Abdullahi Zakari. Many people were also reportedly injured in the attack.“I believe Malam was their target but Allah protected him and we pray for the souls of those killed and for quick recovery of those injured,” Malam Musa, who was also injured, said.Shiite witnesses to the bloodbath told that the killing was carried out by security operatives,  based on the caliber of bullets, ammunitions and other evidence they claimed were found at the scene.Reports from the scene note that the cleric has been critical of the Islamist group Boko Haram, but has also criticized a military task force in the area over a recent attack that destroyed the city’s cattle market and left at least 34 people dead.According to witnesses the assailants, opened fire on members of the African Shia Islamic Movement during Maghrib prayers and killed 3 brothers and one of their own. One of the worshipers in a show of bravery captured one of the gunmen, but was shot together with the gunman he captured. The disguised mobile police/army men took away the corpse of their colleague and took to their heels. It was apparent that, the target of the attack was Malam Mustapha Lawan, who had been critical of the police and soldiers for the daily killing of innocent people in the state and across the country under the pretext of the so-called Boko Haram. Bullets and cartridges, bearing police inscription, and cellular phone that fell off the hands of the assailants were recovered when they took to their heels. Responding to the attack and discovery of police bullets and cartridges at the scene of the attack, on BBC Hausa Service, police commissioner in the state Mr Moses said he was aware of security operation night of the attack but the Police had killed not anyone. Malam Mustapha Lawan in also in a BBC interview confirmed the incident was the handiwork of Nigerian security intent to crush the influence of Islamic Movement in Nigeria. He said, he was the primary target of the gunmen, but Allah saved him. Malam Mustapha Lawan also confirmed the possession of exhibits bearing police colours and inscriptions, which they left behind while trying to run away in fear.
