Bahrain's Minor Criminal Court postpones activist’s trial

Bahrain's Minor Criminal Court has postponed the trial of the president of the non-profit Bahraini NGO, Bahrain Center for Human Rights until May 22.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Nabeel Rajab’s court session had initially been scheduled to be held later on Sunday.

The prominent human rights activist was arrested upon return from Lebanon at the Bahrain International Airport in the capital Manama on Saturday.

He is accused of protesting without the ruling Al Khalifa regime's permission.

Rajab is a major critic of the regime and has played a significant role in anti-government demonstrations over the past months.

Rights activist Zainab al-Khawaja's court session has also been postponed until later this week. She was arrested during an anti-regime rally in the capital and has been in jail since last month.

Her father and well-known human rights campaigner Abdulhadi al-Khawaja was imprisoned last year for protesting against the government. He has been on hunger strike for almost 90 days now.

Bahrainis have been holding peaceful anti-regime protests since February 2011.

The demonstrators hold King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa responsible for death of protesters during the popular uprising.
