(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Nuhu Yakubu, said Muslim leaders in the country were not doing enough to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency.Yakubu spoke yesterday in Abuja at the second international Islamic book exhibition organized by the De Minaret International. He said the country was under attack by bad elements within the Muslim community and that Muslim leaders were not doing enough to fish out the suspects. He called on the leaders to come up with a solution to the Boko Haram problem bedevilling the country so that non-Muslims would know the religion does not condone violence.Yakubu also took a swipe at Muslim politicians for their failure to put into practice the teachings of Islam. He said most of them were responsible for the sorry state of the country.“Let me say here that Muslim leaders are not doing enough on the issue of Boko Haram. The Muslim leaders need to come and take a decisive step in order to find a lasting solution to the issue. Parents should stop shying away from their responsibilities, because most of these things started from home,” he said.Earlier in his welcome address, the Managing Director of Minaret International, Abu Mazzedal Khair AbdulRauf, described the Boko Haram insurgency as the “worst era for Muslims in Nigeria.”A guest lecturer at the event, Sheikh Muhammad Uthmaan , said Nigeria could “overcome the current security challenges only if all the citizens desist from sins and are sincere in serving the creator of all things.”/129
