Egyptian cleric: Qatar, Saudi Arabia Israel’s servants

A senior Egyptian cleric has accused Saudi Arabia and Qatar of meddling in the internal affairs of other Muslim nations, calling the two states ‘Israel’s servants’.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Sheikh Mohammad Alaedin Madhi said the two countries were implementing an Israeli-US plan in Syria.

"Firstly, is there a democracy in Qatar and Saudi Arabia? I don’t think so. They interfered in Libya. They killed a hundred times more people than Gaddafi [killed] in Libya. They have nothing to do with Islam," Madhi said in an exclusive interview with us in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

"Saudi Arabia buys arms and weapons from the US every year. Who do they use these weapons against? They use their weapons against the Houthi Muslims,” he said, referring to the north-based Shia minority in Yemen.

“They killed Muslims in Bahrain. They threaten Syria, which is a Muslim nation. Why don’t they fight against Israel? Qatar and Saudi Arabia are Israel’s servants."

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011. The violence has claimed the lives of hundreds of people, including many security forces.

Damascus blames ‘outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups’ for the unrest, asserting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.

The cleric also praised the Lebanese resistance movement of Hezbollah for standing against Israel.

"Today Lebanon’s Hezbollah is the only force challenging Israel. It’s natural that Israel seeks to destroy Hezbollah through destroying Syria and disintegrating the country. Israel wants to have a civil war in Syria to destroy Hezbollah," Madhi said.

He further criticized Saudi-owned television news channel, Al Arabiya, and the Qatar-owned broadcaster, Al Jazeera, for "serving Israeli interests."

Riyadh and Doha have already been accused of waging a civil war in Syria by supporting armed groups in the country.

According to reports, Qatar has created a mercenary force based in Turkey -- with Ankara's full knowledge -- to topple the Syrian government.
