Today the court issued its first
verdict against a teacher who is charged for refusing to work (joining the
strike) last year. The sentence is 3 months in prison but the court decided to
suspend execution. The BICI report stated that the strike was legal.

1. A sit-in protest took place in Al Wefaq Head Quarter, in soilidarity with activitist on hunger strike Abdulhadi Al Khawaja. Large numbers of people were present in the event including human rights and political activists.
A number of speeches were given, including a speech by Mrs. Al Khawaja, Abdulhadi's wife, EX MPs S. Hadi Al Mosawi, Khalil Al Marzooq, Al Khawaja's lawyer Mohammed Al Jishi, and many others.

The department of trade unions and civil society of Al Wefaq, holds the authorities responsible for the delay and whirling in the implementation of the recommendations of the Fact-Finding Commission on the return of the dismissed, adding "With the day February 23, 2012 will be a complete period of four months that had passed since the report of the Independent Commission to investigate the facts was submitted to the King of Bahrain by Professor Mahmoud Cherif Bassiouni Chairman of the Committee, and the dismissals file is still without a complete, comprehensive and just sulotion. "

3. A sit in protest by the dismissed in front of the Ministry of labor was not authorized by Isa town Police Station. As the protest was due to take place on Wednesday and Thursday to coincide with the visit of the delegation of the International Labor Organization.
The organizers of the sit-in were contacted today and they were told that there cannot be a sit-in in any two consecutive days and that the first one must be completed first and then sit further notification of the second sit-in to be held after three days later.

The Commission is unable to confirm the contention put forth by theMoL, CSB and several companies that the workers‘ strikes that occurredduring February/March 2011 were unlawful because they were unrelated tolabour issues. It appears that the workers‘ strikes that occurred duringFebruary/March 2011 were within the permissible bounds of the law.

4. For the Second time in one week, security forces shoot tear gas inside a
Shia Mosque in Aali during the evening prayers time. A case of suffocation of an
elderly man was reported.
5. Many villages are subjected daily to excessive shooting of tear gas, as it is being irresponsibly shot in tight areas and inside houses and in some cases directly to the body of protestors.
These actions fall within the collective punishment that the Ministry of Interior is practicing against the citizens.
