Proximity of Religions, Ground for Reviving Islamic Civilization

Senior cleric stressed proximity of Islamic denominations as the ground for interaction between Muslim scholars saying proximity dialogues can be quite influential in reviving Islamic civilization.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) -   Hujjat-ol-Islam Mohammad Hassan Akhtari, Secretary General of Ahlul Bayt (AS) World Assembly called Qom Seminary and Al Azhar University as two major bases for Shia and Sunni highlighting the agreements between the Islamic centers.

He referred to the roles of late Aytaollah Boroujerdi, remarkable Shia jurisprudent and Sheikh Mahmoud Shaltut, prominent Egyptian Sunni scholar in boosting the ties between Shia and Sunni communities.

"A main occupation for late Ayatollah Boroujerdi and Sheikh Shaltut was launching the communications between Shia and Sunni Muslims based on religious and scientific axis of the denominations." said Hujjat-ol-Islam Akhtari.

He criticized the political ambiance during the past 40 years for preventing fatwa of Sheikh Shaltut, regarding the Shia Muslims, to take effect.

Iranian cleric also hailed the proximity activities which have been resumed since the Islamic Revolution of Iran and said, "Due to the leadership of late Imam Khomeini (RA) and the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei many influential proximity measures have been taken."

According to the Shia figure the majority of Sunni Muslims, except for Saudi Arabia, approve this proximity thought and move in line with that.

He stressed the necessity of Islamic Civilization dialogue and said, "Islamic civilization is a rich civilization full of great scientific, social and cultural figures; therefore, if we boost unity and proximity so that it finds its place in society, then Muslim unity is achieved."

Hujjat-ol-Islam Akhtari also said strengthening unity and proximity turns into a force to confront the plots of the enemies and solving the disagreements.

Iranian religious figure also referred to the activities of the international members of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought including figures from Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon and Afghanistan and called for constant discussions between the scholars for solving the religious questions and highlighting the commonalities of Shia and Sunni.

He also called Islamic and human issues as the necessary issues of the present era and stressed the potentialities of Islam for solving the demands in the contemporary world.
