Muslim Brotherhood Blamed Egyptian Interior Minister for Recent Attacks on Members

Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood has held accountable the country’s Interior Ministry for two recent attacks on Islamic politicians.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Brotherhood parliamentarian Hassan al-Prince was critically injured in an accident on Friday when a truck rammed into his car. Late on Thursday, armed men attacked presidential candidate Dr. Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh and stole his car in Cairo.

Prince was deputy head of the parliament's health committee, which this week approved the transfer of ousted ruler Hosni Mubarak to a prison hospital from a military hospital. Fotouh is a former senior member of the Brotherhood. He is considered to be one of the most popular candidates running for the Egyptian presidential election.

"We hold the Interior Ministry and all its institutions entirely responsible for these incidents," the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) said in a statement on Friday.

The statement also accused the ruling military generals of ignoring death threats made to the members of the Muslim Brotherhood.

"We demand (state authorities) perform the role they are supposed to perform and realize the people will not forgive them for their neglect and the dereliction of the rights of their country and its citizens," read the statement.

The FJP, which controls nearly 50 percent of the seats in the new parliament, emerged as the biggest single party in Egypt's parliamentary election, followed by the Islamic al-Nour party that finished second with 29 percent of the seats.

The statement further said the recent incidents of violence in the country, including the soccer stadium mayhem in Port Said earlier this month that left 74 people dead, were the result of a calculated effort to create insecurity in Egypt.

Since the ouster of Mubarak in February 2011, the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) has been ruling Egypt.

Egypt is expected to hold a presidential election by the end of June.
