Bahrain deports four foreign activists

Bahrain has deported four foreign activists on charges of participating in anti-regime protests, bringing to 14 the number of foreigners expelled from the Persian Gulf kingdom over the past week.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Bahraini government announced on Saturday that it has decided to expel the four because they “lied on immigration forms” and “took part in illegal demonstrations.”

Although the nationalities of the deportees were not revealed, Bahrain's main opposition group Al-Wefaq said one American and one Briton were among the group.

Last Tuesday marked the first anniversary of popular protests in Bahrain that have been repressed by the Saudi-backed regime forces.

On the anniversary day, the authorities announced the expulsion of eight Americans while two others were deported three days earlier.

Dozens of people have been killed and hundreds more arrested or fired from their jobs since the beginning of Bahrain’s popular uprising in February 2011.
