Malaysia: Mosque launches fundraiser to build dialysis centre

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - SUBANG Jaya will soon have a dialysis centre and health clinic to cater for the poor, courtesy of KPJ Healthcare Bhd and Al-Falah mosque in USJ 9.Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh said the current Klinik Wakaf An-Nur (Kwan) at the Al-Falah mosque had been serving 530 residents since its opening in April last year.This wakaf (endowment) clinic for the poor provides outpatient treatment for patients of all races and religions.The clinic’s patients only need to pay RM5 for consultation and medication.“We are urging donations from residents of Subang Jaya for the cost of building a new clinic and 12-bed dialysis centre, which will hopefully be ready in June.“On behalf of my constituency, we are pledging RM17,000 to assist the mosque in raising funds to build the new clinic,” she said during the launching of Klinik An-Nur recently.Also present were KPJ Healthcare corporate social responsibility (CSR) and education group general manager Yusof Ismail and Al-Falah mosque community bureau chairman Dr Khazali Mohd Zin.Yeoh called on the Federal Government to channel the RM8mil in funds under the Ninth Malaysia Plan allocated to Subang Jaya to establish more healthcare facilities for its residents.“We need proper government clinics in Subang Jaya. The cost of running the current clinic is borne by the mosque and KPJ Healthcare.“At the moment, residents here have to go to the government clinics in Kelana Jaya or Puchong and both are always packed,” she added.With the new dialysis centre, residents need only pay RM90 for services, compared to RM200 at other dialysis centres.Those who donate RM500 and above will receive tax exemptions.Klinik Wakaf An-Nur is open from 9am to 5pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and is staffed by one resident doctor and two nurses.KPJ Healthcare has set up 16 endowment clinics all over the country. Six of them are located in Selangor and the rest in Johor, Negri Sembilan, Perak and Sarawak.“We are hoping to have 19 clinics by end of the year. Although the clinic is run as a charity, we do not compromise on the quality of service and expertise of doctors.“We are also looking for full-time doctors and trained nurses for the new clinic as well as nephrologists for the dialysis centre. If we have more manpower, we can open the clinic six days a week,” said Yusof.Khazali said he was very thankful to Yeoh and the KPJ Healthcare group for helping to set up the clinic.“This really eases the burden of the poor and we want to encourage people from other races and religions to use the facilities too,” he added./129
