Egypt ruling military will stay in power until July: PM

Egypt's prime minister says the country’s ruling military is to remain in power despite repeated calls for an immediate transfer of power to a civilian government.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Kamal el-Ganzouri said on Wednesday that the military authority will stay in power until June 30, adding that the new constitution and presidential elections will be completed before the date.

The prime minister also called on people who have been protesting against the ruling army to show restraint.

More than a year after the ouster of former president Hosni Mubarak in a popular revolution, Cairo is still under the control of the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF).

Egyptians have in recent weeks staged mass demonstrations against the continued rule of the SCAF.

Protesters have been calling on the SCAF to hand over power to a civilian authority, accusing it of moving against the country's popular revolution by using violence against civilians.
