The Art of Iranian Painting: beginning to Islam

"The Art of Iranian Painting" penned b Hassan Afshari makes a survey over Iranian paintings of differentf Elami, Medean, Achaemenid, Parthian and Sassanian eras.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Colors and coloration had a wide practice in ancient Iran and ever since the Neanderthal Epoch, Iranians knew colors and applied them as decorative and religious elements and held colorful festivals. They used to think that by means of colors they could ask supernatural help, and in some cases they only functioned as decorative elements.

A brief survey of Pre-Islamic painting, the volumes attempts to put history and arts together. According to Ali-Asghar Shariatzadeh, manager of Pazineh Publications, the main indicator of Iranian arts in various ages is an attempt to reach knowledge and perfection in beauty.

"Iran has a rich historical background and according to the theory of Professor Marcel Otte, the origin of first human beings was most probably in Iran. Painting is one of the first human art forms with about 40 thousand years old," Afshari said.

Referring to problems of research and lack of enough sources, Afshari said: "I faced many restrictions when compiling the book. Most of the books were unavailable and specific libraries did not lend or let me copy the. Add to this the problems of field research."

The first print of "The Art of Iranian Painting" written by Hassan Afshari is published by Pazineh Publications in 260 pages and 1500 copies.
