Sudan to Hold Int’l Quran Contest Annually

Sudan plans to organize the Quran competition it holds at the international level every year.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - This is according to the country’s President Omar Al-Bashir speaking Sunday night at the closing ceremony of the third edition of Khartoum Quran Award.

 The ceremony was held at Al-Sidaqa Hall in Khartoum, Al-Nilin website reported.

 He said the competition should be held annually so that it can be elevated to the level of other international Quran contests.

 Omar Al-Bashir called on the related organizations and bodies to help for better organization of the competition.

 “The Holy Quran is our Sharia and law and the Sudanese keep their country safe against the enemies by resorting to the Quran,” he said.

 Up to now, the Khartoum Quran Award has been held biennially. Muhammad Rishad from Algeria, Muhammad Tah Al-Hassan from Niger and Zuhair Fat’hi Evaz from Libya won the first three titles in the third edition of the contest held from January 16-20.

 250 top Quran reciters and memorizers of the Quran from 30 countries including Chad, Kuwait, Senegal, Qatar, the UAE, Ethiopia, Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Libya, Niger, South Africa Algeria and Tunisia took part in the competition.
