(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The Terengganu State Museum and the event organizer of an upcoming exhibition on Islamic treasures from China will provide “airtight” security for a gold-plated Quran that will be displayed at the show.Museum director Mohd Yusof Abdullah said the 500-year-old Quran from the Ming dynasty will be kept under tight security throughout the six-month Chinese Islamic Treasure Exhibition, which starts here on Feb 14.“The history of the gold-plated Quran began during the Ottoman empire.“It was then taken to eastern Turkestan by an Arab religious scholar during the Ming Dynasty.“The Quran, valued at more than RM170mil by international artifact experts, was then taken to Yunnan in China,” he said here yesterday.Considering its value and significance, Mohd Yusof said the museum, with the cooperation of event organizer Topchain Capital Sdn Bhd, has planned airtight security for the treasure.“We will rope in private security firms as well as the police to ensure the safety of this artifact,” he said.Mohd Yusof added they will place the Quran in a special vault after exhibition hours.Meanwhile, Topchain Capital general manager, Wan Farahaida Wan Idrus said the event will showcase artifacts with Islamic art and motifs from the various Chinese dynasties.“Among the artifacts to be displayed are items of jade, porcelain as well as bronze, silver and other material.“It is the most special exhibition to be held at the museum. I hope the people can take this journey to an ancient Islamic civilization,” she said.Wan Farahaida added that the exhibition will later move to the National Museum in Kuala Lumpur. The exhibition, which ends in July, will be open to the public from 9am to 5pm daily, except on Friday. /129
