Islamic Human Rights Training Program Enrolls Muslim Students from All Over Uganda

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Muslims students from about 20 schools in Uganda have attained training in human rights observance, with a call for exhibition of tolerance in their communities and fostering peace while following the teachings of Prophet Muhammad.The president of Muslim Centre for Justice and Law, Mr. Jaffer Senganda, in a three-day human rights training at Bilal Secondary School in Kawempe Division, said promotion of human rights among Muslims is very important, especially at a time when the world is grappling with sectarian violence.“We want to do away with the notion some people spread that Islam is synonymous with violence and human rights violation, which isn’t true. So we want to teach the young ones, picking some examples from the Koran that Islam is about peace,” Mr. Senganda said.He added that they are working on human rights clubs in Muslim schools to empower student leaders and teachers to understand various issues and how to deal with challenges.“When students are empowered, they become vigilant to human rights issues such as sexual abuse, domestic violence and also learn to live with people of different religions without confrontation,” he said.Sheikh Badru Byamugisha, a trainer in Muslim pluralism, told students not to emulate the sectarian attacks allegedly committed by the Boko Haram insurgents against their non-Muslim neighbours in Nigeria, adding that Allah does not forbid living in peace. /129
