The online social network, Facebook, deleted a profile picture which includes abortion tips by taking certain pills from the account of the Dutch Dr. Rebecca Gomperts, the founder of the organization “Women on Waves (WoW)”, which defends the right of women to perform abortion. Later, Facebook backed down and reinstated the picture.Dr. Rebecca Gomperts was known for the abortion ship “Women on Waves” that sailed in the early 90’s of the last century to Ireland, Poland and Portugal to help the women perform abortion on board of this ship off the coasts of these countries where abortion procedure is illegal.Actually, the profile picture includes information and instructions on how can women abort themselves by using medical pills called Misoprostol which should be ingested in distant time intervals, knowing that ten hours after ingesting them, the pregnancy would be terminated and abortion takes place.Terminating the pregnancy should never be subjected to one’s mood or left to man to decide on, for this is a big crime against humanity. Thus, we should look thoroughly into the dangers imposed by such issues at the social and psychological levels. Lawmakers ought to pass laws that ban such procedures especially that they have become ordinary and familiar. Moreover, cultural, religious and moral awareness to such sensitive issues that are related to man’s life and dignity should be spread. As for the religious opinion, His Eminence, the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra) said that: “It is forbidden to abort the fetus, even starting from the very first moments of the fertilization of the ovum and the attachment of the embryo to the wall of the uterus."/129
