Thousands of Bahrainis slam regime rights violations

Thousands of people have held a rally in Bahrain on the International Day of Human Rights, condemning the Saudi-backed regime's violation of civil liberties.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Thousands of people have held a rally in Bahrain on the International Day of Human Rights, condemning the Saudi-backed regime's violation of civil liberties.

"No Retreat from persecuting the killer," the anti-regime protesters shouted on Friday.

The rally was organized by the main opposition group, al-Wefaq Party, and several other political parties.

Earlier on Friday, Saudi-backed forces fired tear gas, rubber bullets and stun grenades at protesters marching toward Manama's Pearl Square, epicenter of the country's anti-regime uprising, from the western neighborhood of Jad Hafs.

Matar Matar, a lawmaker from Al-Wefaq Party, said that some protesters were brutally beaten while others suffered breathing problems due to the tear gas.

Anti-regime protests continue in Bahrain, despite the government's promises for reforms. The demonstrators want the downfall of the ruling Al Khalifa regime.

Dozens of protesters have been killed since the pro-democracy rallies began in February. Hundreds more have been arrested in the ongoing crackdown by regime forces.
