Kenya: Mombasa Muslims Mark Eid-Ul-Adha With Prayer

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Thousands of Muslims in Mombasa yesterday converged at different places of worship where they conducted prayers to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha. Eid-ul-Adha are festivities where Muslims all over the world mark the end of Hajj, the holy pilgrimage to Mecca. At this time, Muslims usually slaughter sheep and goats and divide the meat in three categories. The three categories include, family, neighbours and friends. They then share the meat.

Muslim leaders at the Coast preached messages of hope and encouraged their congregations to love one another and help the less fortunate. Kisauni MP Hassan Joho, Fisheries assistant minister Abu Chiaba, Mombasa DC Abdi Hassan and Kenya Muslims National Advisory Council chairman Sheikh Juma Ngao joined other faithful at the Ummu Kulthum mosque for prayers.

Former Chief Kadhi Hammad Kassim, Shariff Nassir Foundation chairman Abdulswamad Nassir, among others were at the Ziwani grounds where prayers were led by Egypt's Azar University scholar Mubarak Ahmed.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Muslim youths after the morning prayers embarked on a mission to rid Mombasa of all the banners and signposts mounted by witchdoctors. The youths said the 'traditional healers' are conmen who are out to make money at the expense of desperate and ignorant Kenyans. "This is contrary to the Muslim faith. The so called witchdoctors are not welcome in Mombasa and should not be allowed to continue with their trade," said Muslim Youth chairman Abou Katada.
