(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - More than 7,000 candidates registered for the first legislative election in Egypt after the end of Hosni Mubarak's regime.
This is what the electoral committee claimed, specifying that 6,591 candidates are running for the People's Assembly (the equivalent of the Italian Chamber of Deputies), while 2,036 candidates are running for the Shura.
For one third of the seats (which are due to be assigned via a proportional quota), 590 electoral lists were registered for the People's Assembly and 272 for the Shura.
Voting is due to start on November 28 for the people's assembly (498 seats) and will continue through three stages until January 10. For the Shura (270 seats) elections will take place from January 29th until March 11th.
The new Egyptian Parliament will have to appoint an assembly in order to write a new Constitution, to be approved via a referendum on a later stage. Then Egyptians will be able to vote for the President of the Republic, probably at the end of next year.
