(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Sheikh Isa Qassim made the revelation during his Friday Prayers sermon in the town of Diraz, condemning the Manama regime for holding so many activists in custody.
Qassim said the regime is responsible for the welfare of detainees.
Bahrain's top cleric says detained opposition leader Hassan Mushaima has been denied treatment in jail despite his "frightening" health condition.
The family of Mushaima says the senior opposition leader is gravely ill and needs immediate medical attention.
A statement released by the family said that they have asked authorities to facilitate medical treatment for him. But so far their requests have been rejected by Bahraini prison officials.
Meanwhile, anti-regime demonstrators flooded the streets in Bahrain's eastern city of Sitra to voice support for the detained leader and demanded his immediate release from jail.
The opposition leader, who suffers from cancer, was sentenced to life in jail in March despite his sickness.
Rallies have also been reported in several villages and towns around the capital Manama despite a heavy Saudi-backed security crackdown across Bahrain.
The protesters renewed their call for the downfall of the ruling Al Khalifah family and voiced solidarity with anti-regime protesters in Saudi Arabia.
