(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - A mosque was destroyed in a fire which caused losses estimated at over RM200,000 in Padang Changkat, Perak Tengah, 55 kilometres from here Monday night.
Perak Tengah senior fire and rescue officer, Mohd Sharip Kasim said, the mosque was empty in the 9.30pm incident as people had gone home after the Isyak prayers.
Villagers realised what happened after they saw smoke billowing from the mosque's roof and immediately contacted the fire and rescue department, he said when contacted today.
He said the roof and ceiling collapsed due to the fire believed to have been caused by a short circuit.
Seven firemen, with a fire engine, managed to put out the flames 30 minutes later.
The mosque, which was built in 1989, could accommodate over 200 people at a time.
