Sri Lankan Muslims allowed to wear skull-cap for National ID Card photographs

Colombo  (Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Following a meeting held with Muslim religious leaders, Sri Lanka’s Defense Secretary Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has instructed the Commissioner General of the Department for Registration of Persons Mr. Jagath P. Wijeweera to accept pictures of Muslim males wearing the skull caps for their national identity card.Representatives of Muslim Organizations in Sri Lanka namely the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) and the Muslim Council of Sri Lanka (MCSL) held discussions with the Defense in this regard following the Registration of Persons Department announcing earlier that this facility will be given only to Muslim students of Arabic Colleges or Muslim Ulemas. The meeting between the Defense Secretary and the religious dignitaries was organized by the Deputy Minister of Technology and Research Mr. Faizer Mustapha.The representatives of the ACJU and MCSL for this meeting were lead by Ash Sheikh M.I.M. Rizvi Mufti and N.M. Ameen respectively./129
