(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Indonesian Muslims who belong to the country's second largest Muslim organization, Muhammadiyah, celebrate Idul Fitri today. In many locations across the country, they have performed the Ied mass prayer to welcome Idul Fitri.
In Jakarta, for example, Jl. Kramat Raya was closed earlier this morning as thousands of Muslims gathered and performed the prayer. Similar scenes have taken place in Petamburan, Central Jakarta and the Al Azhar Mosque in South Jakarta, tempointeraktif.com reported on Tuesday.
Outside of Jakarta, most people in Yogyakarta have also performed the Idul Fitri prayer today. Yogyakarta is the birthplace of Muhammadiyah, as its founder, K.H. Ahmad Dahlan established the organization there.
To date, more than 20 million Indonesian Muslims belong to Muhammadiyah. The organization's central board had earlier decided that Idul Fitri would fall today; contrary to a subsequent decision by the government, which has decided that Idul Fitri will take place on Wednesday.
