Nigerian Muslims urged to treasure Holy Qur’an

A call has gone to Nigerians to treasure and revere the Holy Qur’an as it remains the invaluable asset capable of guaranteeing fear of God, peace and progress in the world.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - A call has gone to Nigerians to treasure and revere the Holy Qur’an as it remains the invaluable asset capable of guaranteeing fear of God, peace and progress in the world.

The call was made in Lagos at the weekend by the coordinator of Conference of Islamic Organisations (CIO), Mallam Abdullahi Shuaib, at the Qur’an Memorisation Competition organised by the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State.

According to him, sincere adherence to the injunctions of Qur’an will guarantee peace, prosperity and success to Nigeria and to all nations in general. He also maintained that Qur’an is a potent medication for body and soul. He particularly urged Muslims to make their companion.

Mallam Shuaib, the guest speaker at the occasion, maintained that “the only medication that clears all kinds of ailment, be it body or soul, is the Qur’an, and it works by making the Qur’an your companion.”

Earlier, the president of MSSN in Lagos State, Mr. Qasim Badrudeen enjoined participants to make the best use of the opportunity given by the State Qur’an Competition to boost the zeal to learn and work by the Qur’an, adding that nothing can be equated with the Qur’an which remains the indelible document of all ages.

According to him, ‘The Treasure’ as a theme needs no explanation as we know that Qur’an is highly invaluable to the existence of mankind. Its recitation, memorisation, exegesis and adherence are meritorious and invaluable, the Amir maintained.

He called on leaders across the world, particularly in Nigeria, to rise to the challenge of good governance. “The positive impact of good governance must be felt by all and sundry, and not by a section of the society. Nigerian leaders should improve on the socio-economic facilities such as power, road, shelter and security,” he said.

The chairman of the occasion and chairman Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation, Alhaji Sulaiman Olagunju commended the organisers as well as the participants for a befitting event.

According to him, there was no better time than this period of Ramadan when the Qur’an itself was revealed. He expressed optimism that the holy book would be better appreciated if the present effort is sustained.

Prizes ranging from Hajj slot to electronic materials as well as literatures were won by the contestants. Prizes were also won for Qur’an exegesis (tafsir) in Arabic.

The programme was attended by important dignitaries and Muslim students across the state.
