(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The revolutionaries said on Friday that they had also taken control of the town's hospital.
Hundreds of Libyan revolutionaries marched from the central square to the hospital. They say they have broken down the last major barrier before advancing toward the capital, Tripoli, from the west.
On Thursday, the revolutionaries took complete control of the oil refinery of Zawiyah.
However, Libyan Prime Minister Baghdadi Mahmudi said the installation was still under the control of government forces.
The Zawiyah refinery is the only one in western Libya, which supplies fuel to the capital.
Libya has been the scene of intense fighting between government troops and revolutionary forces since a revolution seeking to topple embattled ruler Muammar Gaddafi began in mid-February.
Zawiyah is a strategic town for both sides as it straddles the main road to the Tunisian border -- the Libyan regime's main supply line.
